What’s up people, my first post after leaving my Tumblr dormant for so long…apologies for that. Anyway, thought I’d post something useful for anyone thinking about getting their sewerage system cleaned out, by that I mean their septic tank.
So I decided to get my septic tank cleaned and pumped, I’ve spent a couple of days researching prices and companies to see if I can get a good deal and have the job done well.
In the past I’ve had pretty bad experiences with any professional that deals with plumbing or home maintenance so I’m being extra diligent before I take the plunge, so the speak, and get a company to come service the old tank.
I found this cool image on the web about prices, however I’m not sure how accurate or up to date it is now.
I have a budget of around $650 to play with and according to this septic tank pumping cost guide the more you can spend the better the quality service you should receive. Therefore I’m probably going to ignore any quotes I receive for under $400 as I want my tank to stay healthy for a good 3-4 years. My septic tank is fairly modern and made from strong plastic so I assume it’s a simple task for the service I choose and it shouldn’t be hard to clean at all compared to some of the older systems people may have, though I have been a bit careless with what I have been flushing (quite a few cigarette butts) but hopefully the drains aren’t blocked.
According to Wikipedia it’s definitely not a good idea for these non-biodegradable objects to enter the tank so I’ll be on my best behavior after the cleaning maintenance has been completed, certainly going to invest in an ashtray if I continue to smoke (I know I’m an idiot for being a slave to that habit).
I was considering buying some of those organic worms to increase the effectiveness of my drain flow and septic tanks abilities but they seem a bit costly and quite frankly the idea is a little disgusting to a city boy like me.
I want to get the tank cleaned sooner rather than later as the weather is supposedly going to get bad soon and I don’t want flooding to be an extra headache in terms of potential flow backing up or a full on blockage that is going to cost me more money than a routine clean.
After researching online I’ve decided to go for a company that will charge me just under $600, near the top end of my budget. I went with this septic tank pumping service as they are offering me a guarantee that if I get a blockage in the next two years they will come and sort it out for free, I don’t think it gets any better than that!
So what do you guys think? Did I get a good deal?
